Abstract

1315496 Fairleads EMI Ltd 10 Aug 1970 [10 Sept 1969] 44724/69 Heading B8B A cable payout arrangement includes a steel abrasion resistant fairlead 3 and a plastic compliant fairlead 1 so arranged that the cable 5 can be guided by the fairlead 3 during payout, and supported by the fairlead 1 after payout once the fairlead 3 has been displaced relative to the fairlead 1. During payout the fairleads are axially aligned, the fairlead 3 acting as a guide since it has a smaller diameter than the fairlead 1. After payout, a structure 2 including the fairlead 3 is released from its coaxial position by releasing a latch 4 on the structure of fairlead 1, the feed in position of the cable 5 causing displacement of the fairlead 3 until the fairlead 1 takes over the cable guiding action. Elastic cord 7 stabilizes the structure 2 relative to the fairlead 1.
