Abstract
1314522 Luminescent materials and uses thereof DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 27 April 1970 [28 Jan 1969] 4565/69 Heading C4S A process for forming a Cu coating on phosphor particles comprising at least one compound of an element of Group IIb with one of S, Se, Te of Group VIb, the process includes immersing the particles in a solution of copper hydride. The phosphor may be ZnS : Mn or ZnSe : Mn of particle size 2 to 5 Ám and the process may be immersion of the particles in copper hydride in hydrazine hydrate. In examples, concentrations of components are given. The coated particles in an electroluminescent device may be in a matrix material such as polymethylmethacrylate or a nitrocellulose solution (e.g. 1À5 grm. treated phosphor/ml. of solution). Dispersion may be ultrasonically and the mixture spread by a chromatographic spreader on tin oxide conducting glass as one electrode, further electrodes being applied by painting on colloidal graphite. Reference is made to Specifications 987,866 and 1,300,548.
