Abstract

1313335 Fuel injection systems ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 20 Aug 1970 [21 Aug 1969] 40187/70 Heading F1B A I. C. engine fuel injection system comprises an accumulator 25', Fig. 2 connected between a fuel quantity metering pump (11) Fig.1 (not shown) and an injection nozzle 40, a valve member 42 between the accumulator and the nozzle operated by a solenoid 44 which opens the valve member to begin injection and closes it after the end of fuel injection and before the beginning of the subsequent metering pump delivery. The governor controlled metering pump (11) supplies fuel via line 15, non-return valve 22 duct 24, accumulator 25' and line 36 to a passage controlled by the valve member 42. When the latter closes duct 36 the fuel pressure in chamber 25' raises the spring- loaded piston 27 and when the valve member 42 is moved to the open position by solenoid 44 the fuel passes via annular space 45 and ducts 37, 38 to act on needle 48 which is lifted to commence fuel injection. The solenoid is energized by signals from a transmitter (54), Fig. 1 (not shown) and control device (52) in dependence on engine speed and cam shaft angle. The end of injection is determined by the stressing of spring 47 and the fuel supply pressure. Fuel leakages pass via 60 and 30 to tank (13). Excess fuel pressure is relieved through duct 65. In a modification the control surface of valve 42 has a levelled portion.
