Abstract
1313302 Knitting COURTAULDS Ltd 25 Aug 1970 [26 Aug 1969] 42448/69 Heading D1K A sleeved garment is knitted with flat front and rear upper body portions whose edges are joined on the machine with the ends of sleeves knitted on the machine. The tubular body 5 and flat upper body parts 6, 6' are knitted on two beds 17, 18 of a V-bed machine which has two pairs of auxiliary beds 19, 20 on which tubular sleeves 7, 8 are knitted. The sleeves are connected to the tubular body part with their wales, perpendicular to the wales of the body parts 6, 6' by continued knitting on beds 17, 18 of parts 6, 6'. The machine includes stitch transfer needles and has web-holding sinkers instead of take-down mechanism. Knitting of parts 6, 6' is continued with yarn from two separate carriers, the end loops from the beds carrying the sleeves being transferred in succession to the needles of the beds 17, 18 carrying the end loops of the body parts 6, 6', so as to form joins 9, 10. The join need not be straight i.e. the sleeves need not be perpendicular to the body. Parts of the join may be made by linking or sewing.
