Abstract

1311114 Electro-photography A B DICK CO 25 June 1970 [25 June 1969] 30880/70 Heading G2H A multi-colour copy of an original is produced by a one stage exposure of an imaging member having interspersed photo-conductive areas sensitized to different light bands of the spectrum and each containing a solubilisable dye of the same colour as the sensitising agent, application of a developer comprising a toner which is a solvent for each solubilisable dye when activated, activation of the toner, and transfer of solubilized dye to a copy sheet. The interspersed areas may be in a pattern of criss-crossing lines or separate islands. Areas of three different colours may be formed of three super-imposed criss-crossing lines or two super-imposed criss-crossing lines on a uniform layer. The areas may be formed using magenta, yellow and cyan coating compositions, each comprising resinous binder, solvent, zinc oxide, sensitizing dye, and spiritsoluble dispersed dye. A dry powder developer may comprise a 2-20% of toner. A liquid developer may comprise 0.2-20% of toner and may also contain a paraffinic hydrocarbon as insulating liquid and a methacrylate copolymer as charge director. Heat-activatable toners specified are antipyrine, 1-allyl-2-thiourea, vanillin, 1, 6-hexanediol, 1, 10-decanediol, ethylurea, acetamide, benzohydrol, 2, 2-dimethyl-1, 3-propanediol, ammonium acetate, ammonium formate, and pyrazine.
