Abstract
1310593 Centrifugal separators MOSKOVSKY ORDENA LENINA ENERGETICHESKY INSTITUT 26 March 1970 14660/70 Heading B2P [Also in Division Fl] A centrifugal separator which may form part of a steam or gas turbine comprises a ring of fixed swirl vanes 2 disposed upstream of a rotor 3 having blades 4 surrounded by collecting chambers 5, 6 for the separated liquid or solid particles. A further collecting chamber 7 surrounds the flow passage between vanes 2 and blades 4 and communicates therewith via slots 8. The blades 4 are of turbine profile at their roots but compressor profile at their tips, the entry angle (#, Figs. 3b, 4b, not shown) being less than 90‹. Their tip chord length is approximately twice that of the root. The exit angle of guide vanes 2 decreases from their radially inner ends outwards. The axial distance a between blades 4 and vanes 2 is not less than one fifth of the height of the latter. The rotor 3 may be freely mounted on a bearing 11 or be connected to a power shaft. Several separators may be mounted in series. Additional extraction slots may be provided on the surface of vanes 2.
