Abstract
1307986 Smoothing pulsating currents WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO Ltd 24 April 1970 [24 April 1969] 20993/69 Heading H2F [Also in Division H1] In apparatus to supply direct current of at least 500 A from a rectifier, a filter comprises a pair 13, 18 of iron-cored induction wound with bus-bar conductors 21 and having a conductive mass 27 interposed between the inductors 13, 18 so as to prevent ripple current in the first inductor inducing ripple in the second inductor. As shown, a pair of inductors 13, 18 suitable for connection in series in a smoothing circuit of a 2000A D.C. supply for a telephone exchange. Each inductor is wound from strips 21 surrounded by C-cores 22 separated by spacers 25 and clamped together by members 23 and tie rods 24. Magnetic screens 27, 28 preferably of copper or aluminium between # and ¢ inch in thickness are provided to prevent the ripple from the inductor connected nearest the rectifier being induced in the later inductor. Alternatively, ferromagnetic screens may be provided.
