Abstract
1307416 Evaporators, film-type LUWA AG 11 June 1970 [11 June 1969] 28419/70 Heading B1B In an evaporator wherein a film of liquid flows down the heated inner wall of cylindrical evaporation compartment 12, the vapour flows to the outlet 24 through a droplet-separation compartment 14 provided with rotary vanes 50 carrying two axially-spaced annular members 52, 54 which partly bound the space between the vanes 50 and the inner wall of the compartment 14. The wall of compartment 12 is surrounded by heating jacket 26. The liquidto-be evaporated is introduced through inlet 22 and is distributed over the inner wall of compartment 12 by rotating wiper vanes 46. On entering compartment 14, the vapours with entrained liquid droplets are deflected inwardly between vanes 50 by lower annular member 54. The droplets are separated and directed to the compartment wall by centrifugal forces either before or after they have run down vanes 50 and been collected by one of the ridges 56 in the leading faces of the vanes. After passing member 54, the vapour expands and is then re-deflected inwardly by annular member 52. The vapour finally passes through gap 72 and flows to the outlet 24. The annular members may be slotted in at least one place (Fig. 3, not shown); and spirals may extend between the upper and lower annular members (Fig. 4, not shown). The separator vanes may be of zig-zag formation.
