Abstract
1307376 Preparation of hydrous silica PFIZER Inc 7 Oct 1970 [22 June 1970] 47782/70 Heading C1A Granular, substantially gel-free hydrous silica is prepared by adding an alkali metal silicate, preferably water glass (6À4% Na 2 O; 20À7% SiO 2 ), to water at a temperature above 70‹ C. over a period of at least 10 minutes to produce a final silica concentration of at least 90 grams per litre while simultaneously introducing pure carbon dioxide or gases containing CO 2 until the precipitation of the hydrous silica is substantially complete. The carbon dioxide may be contained in either flue or lime kiln gases.
