Abstract
1307359 Endless conveyers for mining BRITISH STEEL CORP 13 May 1970 [16 April 1969] 19399/69 Heading B8A [Also in Division E1] A belt conveyer in a mine roadway 12 comprises rope side-frames 28, 30 anchored at the workface end 36 of the roadway and secured by ties 43 to a tail-end unit 38. As the workface 18 retreats, the conveyer is shortened by disconnecting the ties 43 and the unit 38 is moved to the right, Fig. 3. The mined area 20 and the adjacent portion of the roadway 12 are then allowed to collapse. In a modification, rigid side-frames are used for the conveyer and the ropes 28, 30 serve only for anchoring the unit 38. The ropes may be extended as the unit is moved or they may be abandoned and further lengths of rope be anchored at the new position of the workface. There may be a combination of rope and rigid side-frames.
