Abstract

1306636 Container handling; jacks J HAUSER 10 Aug 1971 [22 Jan 1971] 37515/71 Headings B8J and B8Q A jack for co-operation with anchor points 2 at an upper and a lower corner of a transport container 1 comprises a vertical cylinder 4, a bolt 17, with a horizontal axis carried by the lower part of the cylinder and engageable with the lower anchor point, and a peg 15 with a vertical axis offset from the body and rigidly connected to an upper part of the cylinder, the peg being engageable with the upper anchor point. The peg 15 is mounted on an arm 13 vertically adjustable on a cylindrical extension 12 of the cylinder 4 and the bolt 17 which is normally rotatable through 90 degrees to lock with the anchor point, is mounted on a bracket 16 extending outwardly from the cylinder 4. A ground engaging foot piece is mounted at the lower end of a piston-rod extendable downwardly out of the cylinder when hydraulic pressure is exerted on a piston thereof, an hydraulic fluid pump and its electric motor and a fluid reservoir being housed in the cylinder above the piston. A transverse spindle 26 adjacent the jack foot piece facilitates transportation of the jack by means of a hand-trolley 20 having forked arms 22 engageable with the spindle. The hydraulic pump motors of jacks at all corners of the container are coupled to the container carrying vehicle power supply and may be controlled remotely either independently or conjointly. The jacks may be secured to the container in either their operative positions extending laterally of the container or their transport positions extending longitudinally of the container when they are to accompany the container.
