Abstract

1304424 Gold or gold alloy electro-plating baths ENGELHARD MINERALS & CHEMICALS CORP 2 July 1970 [3 July 1969] 32276/70 Heading C7B Gold or gold alloy electro-plating baths comprise an aqueous solution of ammonium gold cyanide; are substantially free of alkali metal ions; and contain an additive, e.g. phosphoric acid, sulphamic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid or sulphuric acid, or ammonium salts thereof, to maintain the pH in the range 5-8 and to improve the conductivity of the bath. The bath may include brighteners and levelling agents; and compounds of Ag, Zn, Cd, Sn, Pb, As, Sb, Hg, Co or Ni, which may or may not co-deposit with the gold may be present. The bath may be used in barrel, rack or strip plating; or in electro-forming. Production of the bath may involve passage of alkali metal gold cyanide solution over ammonium cation exchange resin to produce ammonium gold cyanide.
