Abstract

1304190 Reel holders SILENTNIGHT Ltd 19 April 1971 [15 April 1970] 17870/70 Heading A4G [Also in Divisions B8 and D1] Wire dispensing or take-off apparatus comprises a post 4 having the lower end thereof adapted to be anchored in the axial bore 2 of a drum 1 of wire, the lower end portion of the post being of reduced cross-section to fit the bore and to define a shoulder 5 abutting the upper surface of the drum, clamping means 6, 7 being removably mounted on the free end of the post for axial movement therealong into tight engagement with the lower surface of the drum.and the post 4 rotatably mounting a carrier arm 11 having a lower wire guide 13 and an upper wire guide 14 whereby wire 15 passing from the drum 1 through the lower and upper guides 13, 14 and then pulled upwardly in the vertical direction causes rotation of the carrier arm 11 enabling controlled wire take-off. In use the lower wire guide 13 is disposed at the periphery of the drum 1 between the flanges 3 thereof. The carrier arm 11 is welded to a web 10 secured to a rotatable boss 8 mounted on the post 4 by means of a thrust bearing 9. A friction material 16 is disposed between the boss 8 and a spring 18 to prevent excessively rapid rotation of the boss 8. The upper wire guide 14 is disposed above the post 4 on the axis 12 thereof.
