Abstract
1300425 Feeding blanks GULF & WESTERN INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS CO 13 April 1970 [15 April 1969] 17382/70 Headings B3Q and B3W A blank-positioning device for use with a machine including a vertically-reciprocable member 16, such as the ram of a punch press or shear, to move a blank 18 fed forwardly through the machine rearwardly against stops 26 comprises a bracket 30 for mounting on ram 16, an arm 46 pivotally mounted on the bracket at 44, a rod assembly 53 vertically slidable in the arm 46, and blank-engaging means such as a vacuum cup 68. The bracket in use is mounted on the ram 16 at such a height that the vacuum cup 68 engages the blank while the ram is still moving downwardly, a cam 62 on the assembly 53 being engageable with the ram 16 to force the assembly with the vacuum cup 68, in engagement with the blank 18, rearwardly. To vary the rearward stroke of the assembly 53 the cam may be replaceable by one of a different profile and/or the stops 26 may be adjustable. The position of the assembly relative to the ram 16 and thus its rearward stroke may also be varied by adjusting a set-screw 98 between the arm 8 and the bracket. A spring 96 biases the vacuum cup towards the ram 16 and a spring 78 biases the assembly 53 downwardly, the pressure exerted by the vacuum cup against a blank being variable by adjusting a nut 82 against which the spring abuts. Blanks are initially fed by a pair of laterally spaced reciprocable bars 20 having feed fingers 22. A hold down 24 clamps the blanks to a feed table 25.
