987,635. Feeding sheets. A. LINDEN. April 9, 1962 [April 11, 1961], No. 13655/62. Heading B6B. Apparatus for feeding cardboard blanks comprises a driven high-speed roller 13, at least one drop-roller 14 movable towards the roller 13 for pressing a cardboard blank thereagainst, and means for controlling the contact pressure of the drop-roller on the cardboard blank, so that said contact pressure is reduced after the cardboard blank has been seized by the high-speed roller and the cardboard blank decelerated, whereby it runs smoothly on to a front stop 10 arranged on the delivery side of the rollers. The drop-roller 14 is rotatably mounted on a pivoted lever 6. The latter is moved by a piston and cylinder arrangement 16. The cylinder is periodically connected to a source of compressed air through valves 21 and 22 in turn. The valve 22 is supplied with compressed air through a member 23, which is adjustable to any desired pressure reduction. Thus the valve 21 is operated to press a cardboard blank against the roller 13 and feed it forwardly at high speed and then the valve 22 operated to reduce the pressure and decelerate the cardboard blank. The front stop is raised and lowered by a piston and cylinder arrangement 18 via a valve 24. The valves 21, 22, and 24 are operated in the desired sequence by electromagnetic means. An adjustable stop 45 limits movement of the roller 14 towards the roller 13. As shown, two sets of rollers 13, 14 and front stop 10 are arranged one behind the other, the cardboard blanks being registered at each station in turn and punched while in said registered position. In a modification, the cardboard blanks are fed by two high-speed rollers 13 arranged on the same shaft and two co-operating drop-rollers. The piston and cylinder arrangements may be replaced by cams.
