Abstract

1299498 Rare earth-chromium exchanged faujasite W R GRACE & CO 27 Aug 1970 [29 Aug 1969] 41382/70 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] Faujasites are made by (a) effecting ion exchange, at a pH of from 2 to 4, between an alkali metal synthetic faujasite having a silica: alumina ratio of from 2À5 : 1 to 6À0 : 1 with mixed or separate aqueous solutions of (i) a chromium salt, and (ii) a rare earth salt; and (b) calcining the product of step (a) at from 600‹ to 1500‹ F. The sodium content of the faujasite may be reduced by washing with ammonium sulphite solution. Preferred faujasites possess (a) a silica : alumina ratio of from 2À5 : 1 to 6À0 : 1, (b) a rare earth ion content of from 2% to 17% by weight, expressed as R.E. 2 O 3 ; and (c) a chromium ion content of from 0À2% to 3% by weight expressed as Cr 3 O 3 . The synthetic faujasite may be incorporated in an inorganic, amorphous matrix material, preferably silica, alumina, silicaalumina, clay or a mixture thereof, for use as a catalyst (see Division B1).
