Abstract

Single-type composing and casting machines; moulds. - Relates to moulds of the kind described in Specifications 7202/15 and 113,262 for producing strip material in the form of printers' leads &c. in sections which may or may not be fused together. A mould for producing strip material of the lesser point sizes, say, below two points, is formed with means, in proximity to one of the walls, to retard the dissipation of heat from the mould cavity. A liner 50 is provided to contact with the side block 8 of the mould and form one of the walls of the mould cavity. The rear surface of the liner is grooved in proximity to the mould cavity, so as to produce the contacting area and so retard the passage of heat to the side block. The grooves may be vertical as shown at 56, Fig. 4, or both horizontal and vertical as shown at 56, Fig. 4. Thegrooves stop short of the casting orifice to avoid imperfect casts.
