Abstract

1296838 Starting prime movers JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 9 April 1970 [27 May 1969] 26638/69 Heading H2H Apparatus for starting a prime mover is arranged so that a second attempt to start the prime mover should a first attempt be unsuccessful can only be made a predetermined time after the first attempt has been made. Movement of an ignition switch 12 to a starting contact 14 energizes a relay 16 by way of a normally closed contact 15a of a second relay 15. Energization of the relay 16 closes a contact 16a which causes a starter solenoid 17 to be energized; completes a self-holding circuit for the relay 16 by way of a diode 18 and causes a capacitor 23 to charge by way of a diode 19. When the capacitor 23 is charged sufficiently it renders a transistor 21 conductive to energize a second relay 15 which opens contact 15a, the relay 16 remaining energized by virtue of the self-holding contact 16a. Should the ignition switch 12 now be released from the contact 14 a further attempt to start the prime mover cannot be effect since the capacitor 23 will maintain the relay 15 energized and contact 15a open until the capacitor has become discharged to a point where it cannot maintain the contact 15a open.
