Abstract
1296097 Erecting cartons R A JONES & CO Inc 25 Feb 1970 9149/70 Heading B8C A cartoning machine, in which carton blanks are conveyed past gluing heads 49 which apply glue to the side walls (31) or to side tabs (30) on the rear and front walls, and past ploughs 61 which urge the side walls into contact with the side tabs to complete erection of the carton, has in the region of the gluing heads auxiliary side wall erection plates 85 operable in the event of a machine stoppage to erect and seal the side walls. When the machine stops the control circuit actuates pneumatic cylinders 91 to pivot the plates to engage the side walls with the flaps, while guide bars 69 which hold the tabs in the closed position are lifted out of the way. The carton blanks are conveyed from a magazine, have their back and front walls erected and then have articles pushed thereon either individually or in groups, before reaching discs 40 rotably mounted on shaft 41 and rails 46 which respectively close the tabs on the rear and front walls.
