Abstract
1295488 Wells &c INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS 11 Dec 1970 [19 Dec 1969] 58989/ 70 Heading E1F [Also in Division B8] A fishing tool has a sleeve 15 formed of a netting of wires, cables or strands, the sleeve when axially extended, contracting to grip the object 16 to be fished. An operating rod 14 is fixed to a member 5 in turn fixed to one end of the sleeve. A reciprocable member 2 is initially fixed to the member 5 by pins 6, and is fixed to the other end of the sleeve. A tube 9 holds the pins against spring pressure in engagement with holes in the member 2. The tool is rotated and lowered into the well, a bit 4 ensuring that the sleeve passes over the top of the object. A ball (not shown) is dropped through the rod and lodges in the tube 9. Drilling fluid forces the tube downwardly to permit the pins to release the member 2, and flows into an annular chamber 20 to force the member 2 downwardly. The downwardmovement of the member 2 extends the sleeve 15 which grips the object so that it may be removed with the tool from the well.
