Abstract

1,201,357. Wells &c. ATLANTIC RICHFIELD CO. 24 Nov., 1967 [14 Dec., 1966], No. 53503/67. Heading E1F. An underwater tubing head has side outlets 66, 68, 82, a tubing hanger 12 resting on a shoulder 38 in the head and locked to the head by dogs 20, and a tubing hanger 22 resting in the hanger 12 and locked to the head by dogs 64. The hangers are separately lowered into the head by a tool (16, Fig. 1, not shown) engaging threads 36, the tool being manipulated to slide sleeves 48, 136 downwardly to lock the dogs. A plug 24 (Fig. 4) is landed on the hanger 22 by a tool 26 having a stinger 75 which depresses the upper ball of double check valve 170 to permit escape of fluid from the head during landing. The plug is locked to the head by dogs 78, and the head is closed by a cap (28, Fig. 7 not shown) screwed into the head above the plug and having a part which is closed after the cap is screwed home. If downhole operations are to be carried out the cap is unscrewed and the plug is removed by a tool 93 (Fig. 5). The tool 93 has a point 172 which depresses the upper ball of the valve 170 to permit measurement of the pressure below the plug so that if necessary pressure may be applied through the pipe carrying the tool and past, the valves 176, 178 to equalize the pressures across the plug before removing it.
