Abstract

1291895 Inhibiting scale JOH A BENCKISER GmbH 18 May 1970 [17 May 1969] 23989/70 Heading C1C [Also in Divisions C3, C5, and C7] Deposition of scale in aqueous systems is prevented by adding to the aqueous system an additive comprising a cold-soluble starch de rivative, the derivative being one formed by reacting an aqueous suspension of starch (e.g. potato or maize starch) with an oxidizing agent (e.g. NaOCl or H 2 O 2 ) at a temperature between the starch gelatinization temperature and 100‹ C. The additive may be used in an amount of 2-500 mg. per litre of water, and may also comprise an amino alkylene phosphonic acid in a starch to acid weight ratio of 1-50 : 1.
