Abstract

1290427 Electrophotographic materials KATSURAGAWA DENKI KK 29 Oct 1970 [29 Oct 1969] 51356/70 Heading H1K An electrophotographic material has an insulating or conductive backing, a composite photo conductive layer with high charge trapping ability, and an insulating overcoat 3. The surface part 2 of the photo-conductive layer consists of a mixture of a photo-conductor of high charge-trapping ability and a photoconductor of high sensitivity. In use, the surface 3 is charged in one direction and is then reverse charged simultaneously with exposure to a light image. In an embodiment an Se84Te16 trapping material is deposited on an aluminium substrate 1 by evaporation from a successively heated plurality of boats containing the material (this ensures that the deposited material is of uniform composition), and the surface layer 4 is deposited by evaporating material from simultaneously heated boats of Se84Te16 and Se60Te40 (the latter is a highly sensitive material; it is believed that the deposit consists of a mixture of small particles of the respective alloys). The insulating layer 3 is a polycarbonate resin. A second embodiment uses the same structure but this is heated at 65‹ C. for 3 hours to complete the material. Alternative materials for the mixed layer 4 are:-Se+Se/Te; S+ CdS, ZnS+CdS; and Se+CdSe. The photoconductive layers 2 of three contrasted structures are:-(a) a single layer of Se60Te40; (b) a main layer of Se84Te16 with a surface layer 4 of Se60Te40; and (c) a main layer of Se60Te40 with a surface layer 2 of Se84Te16.
