Abstract
1288292 Coated ingot moulds DOITTAU PRODUITS METALLURGIE 10 Dec 1969 [31 Dec 1968] 60189/69 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B3 and C3] Ingot moulds or head-boxes are lined by projecting by means of a pressure of at least 20 kg/cm<SP>2</SP> from a nozzle against the surface to be lined a composition comprising 85 to 96% wt. refractory material and 4 to 15% wt. porous material suspended in an organic liquid binder. The refractory material may be silica, alumina zirconia or magnesium oxide. The binder may be a phenolic resin, vinyl resin, furan resin, sodium silicate or gum arabic, and the porous material may be. perlite, diatomaceous earth, or wood flour. The following compositions were employed (parts by weight). Composition I-V were sprayed against a head-box at a pressure of 22 kg/cm<SP>2</SP>. The apparatus shown in the figure was used to spray the composition VI from a tank 1 in which the composition is stirred on to a headbox 12 via a gun 5. Both the head-box and the gun were connected to an electrostatic generator 10 to charge to atomised composition and head-box. A separate spray head 13 sprayed dilute NaO on to the lining. This reacted with the aluminium in the composition to produce heat to vaporize the water and isopropanol.
