Abstract

1,195,936. Blowing lances. FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 3 June, 1969 [11 June, 1968], No. 27679/68. Heading F4B. A lance has a protective layer of compressible refractory material applied to the end which is immersed in molten metal, so that solidified metal or slag may readily be removed without damaging the lance. Semi-cylindrical sleeves 2 or strips of fibre-containing bonded refractory are secured to the lance head 1 by clips 3, or are stuck to the lance head. The refractory layer and any exposed parts of the lance are coated with a refractory non-wet coating such as a mixture of chromite powder, graphite powder and bentonite in an aqueous solution of aluminium ortho-phosphate, or chromite flour with a silica sol and polysaccharide gum in water.
