Abstract

1288175 Sizing machine CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 27 May 1971 [10 July 1970] 17591/71 Heading B3H A bore sizing machine comprises a ram 23 to push a ball 21 through the bore of a tubular workpiece 12 and a ramp 28 down which the ball returns under gravity to a return device 32 which positions the ball in front of the retracted ram. The return device 32 comprises a plate 33 hinged to a plate 22 on a headstock18 and raised and lowered by an hydraulic piston-cylinder unit (38), Fig. 3 (not shown). The plate 22 has a recess to seat the ball and the recess has a sensor 41 of a switch 42 to actuate the hydraulic ram 23. At the exit of the bore the ball trips a lever 43 of a switch 44 to initiate the return of the ram. The unit (38) for the plate 33 is actuated by a manual switch (39). The workpiece is supported by a cradle 14 and the headstock is adjustable by a rack and pinionl9 for different sizes of workpiece. The workpiece may be upwardly inclined.
