Abstract

1287580 Ion-exchange RESINDION SpA 4 June 1970 [2 July 1969] 62059/69 Heading B1J [Also in Division C6] Aqueous solutions, e.g. raw sugar cane or sugar beet juices, are desalinated by passing the solution in succession through a strongly basic anion exchange resin in the bicarbonate form to produce a solution in which the cations are associated with bicarbonate ion, a weakly acidic cation exchange resin in the hydrogen form to absorb the cations and produce carbonic acid with the bicarbonate ion, and a strongly acid cation exchange resin in the hydrogen form and a weakly basic anion exchange resin in the bicarbonate form to absorb residual ions. There is finally obtained water containing carbonic acid which may be removed by degassing.
