1285873 Roof ladders COLT INTERNATIONAL Ltd 26 Sept 1969 [11 July 1968] 33073/68 Heading E1S A roof ladder comprising rungs 12 and stiles 11 and adapted to lie flat on a roof, has a hook pivotally attached to the upper end thereof for hooking over the ridge of a pitched roof (Fig. 2, not shown), the hook comprising an arched frame 22 including a transverse bar 23 which rests on the roof on the remote side of the ridge, the hook being pivotally adjustable to any angle of pitch. As shown, the hook frame 2 is pivoted to a plate 17 mounted on the ladder, and springs 25 are provided to urge the adjacent end portion of the frame downwardly towards the plate, providing automatic adjustment of the hook. The frame 22 carries wheels 32 to facilitate pushing the ladder (turned over) up the roof. An extension ladder of similar form may be attached to the lower end of the ladder by means of box-section joining pieces engaging over adjacent ends of the stiles and a spring-pressed fastening member pivoted to the extension ladder and engaging a groove in the lowermost rung of the roof ladder (Fig. 8, not shown). Where the roof ladder is to span roof glazing, a bridging piece is fitted over the ladder to remove the load from the glazing, the bridging piece having a cross-bearer attached to its underside which lies across the glazing bars (Fig. 7, not shown).
