Abstract

1285602 Electrolytic recovery of silver PHOTOGRAPHIC SILVER RECOVERY Ltd 2 Sept 1970 [11 Sept 1969 16 April 1970] 44978/69 and 18288/70 Heading C7B An apparatus for the recovery of silver from waste solutions, see for example Fig .1, comprises an electrolytic silver recovery machine, such as a rotating cathode machine 10, and upstream an auxiliary tank 12 receiving the waste solution from the source, a metering pump 13 being turned on and off by changes in the level of solution in the auxiliary tank, such as detected by switches 18 and 19, and pumping solution to the recovery machine, the machine operating at constant electric current and only when the pump is pumping. A high level warning switch 27 may be included in tank 12. Preferably the pipe 15 from the pump passes through a larger overflow pipe 16 and then enters a large diameter pipe 24 having an aperture 32 therein, to provide air gaps in the supply of solution from the pump, which is preferably of the pulsating type. A further upstream tank (not shown) may be provided to even out the flow-rate of solution and may be provided with temperature sensing and heating devices to maintain the solution temperature at for example 85‹F.
