Abstract

Refinements introduced into seven-segment display devices, of the type comprising a seven-segment display device with a common anode and a cathode for each segment, a cathode driver connected to each cathode to supply cathode current to the appropriate segment when it is energized, a circuit connection including a series diode connected to each cathode, a detector circuit connected to the circuit connections in order to divert current through the respective diode from the respective cathode driver in the event of failure of a device segment, and an output from the detector circuit connected to give a warning indication when a current is received through a diode.
