Abstract

1285581 Electro-photographic processes XEROX CORP 29 Oct 1969 [4 Nov 1968] 52999/69 Heading G2H An insulating transfer layer 16 is sandwiched between an electrically photo-sensitive layer 14 and a receiver layer 18, the sandwich is subjected to an electric field and imagewise exposed and then layers 14 and 18 are separated whereby layer 16 fractures to provide complementary images on layers 14, 18. Layer 16 may be rendered cohesively weak by softening to facilitate fracture. Exposure may be to light or X-rays. Preferably layer 14 is supported on a substrate 12 and the field is applied by electrodes 20. Alternatively corona discharge may be used. Suitable materials for the layers are named. In one example, layer 16 comprises polyethylene and ferric stearate and after imaging the receiver layer 18, bearing an image formed from layer 16, is contacted with a transfer surface coated with gallic acid and heated. This produces a black image on the transfer surface.
