Abstract
1285228 Automatic speed control SCHLOEMANN A G 6 April 1970 [18 April 1969] 16189/70 Heading G3R A system for coiling wire or other elongated material on to a reel rotated by a motor includes a cam, driven by the reel, which sets a potentiometer to provide a desired speed reference signal. An actual speed signal is derived from the reel drive, and the speed of the reel is controlled in accordance with the difference between the two signals. In the system shown, a motor 1 drives a pump 4a feeding an hydraulic motor 4b, the output shaft 8a of which drives a worm gear 8 which rotates a reel or drum 9 on to which material from an extrusion press is being coiled. The shaft 8a also drives a tacho-alternator 10 to provide an actual speed signal on line 21, and, through a stepless gear 12, a cam disc 13. A member 14 is biased against the edge of the disc 13 and adjusts the setting of a potentiometer 15 as the cam rotates. The resultant voltage on line 22 forms a reference with which the actual speed signal is compared in a regulator 18, the output from which controls an hydraulic device 19 to adjust the pump 4a. The profile of the cam disc 13 is symmetric about a diameter, one half controlling the speed of drum 9 during a lay in which the coiled material spirals inwardly, and the other half controlling the speed when the material spirals outwardly. The supply to the potentiometer 15 is derived from a potential U 1 representing the speed of the extrusion press. A transformer 26 expresses the deformation ratio of the material before and after extru - sion.
