Abstract

972,210. Variable-speed control. MASCHINENFABRIK GOEBEL G.m.b.H. July 5, 1963 [July 7, 1962], No. 26810/63. Heading F2D. [Also in Division B6] The spool 3, 4 winding up a paper or like web 1 is driven through a friction coupling by rings 6, 7 on a shaft 5 driven by a motor through a variable gear 10; an hydraulic pump 17 is driven in synchronism with the shaft 5, and its output, adjustable by a hand wheel 18, causes progressive movement of a piston 23, which varies the rates of the gear 10 in proportion to the web roll diameter, and also varies an electric control 31 so as to control a valve 35 in an hydraulic or pneumatic system comprising a piston 43 which controls the friction coupling by means of the ring 7. According to the nature of the web and the resultant necessary tension, a potentiometer 47 is adjusted. In the case of supply reels, the piston 43 controls a reel shaft brake, and the gear 10 and drive thereto is omitted.
