1283729 Feeding sheets GRAPHA MASCHINENFABRIK HANS MULLER AG 31 Oct 1969 [11 Nov 1968 18 Sept 1969] 53481/69 Heading B8R In apparatus for stacking paper sheets, including folded sheets such as pamphlets, the sheets 11 are individually fed by endless belts (5, 6), Fig. 2 (not shown), to cylindrical slotted members 4 which rotate to deliver each sheet so that a stack 19 is formed on the arms 18 of two sets of rotatably mounted star wheels 13. When the stack contains a predetermined number of sheets the star wheels 13 are rotated through 120 degrees, thus allowing the stack 19 to drop on to a table 20 mounted for rotation on a shaft 21. Thus, if the sheets 11 are folded sheets, and a uniform final package is required, each stack 19 can be stacked on the table 20 at a 180 degrees offset to the adjacent stack. The counting of the sheets 11 in the stacks 19 and of the stacks 19 on the table 20 is effected by photo-cells (90), (94) and the way in which these co-operate with a control and drive arrangement to effect the desired rotation of star wheels 13 and indexing of table 20 is described with reference to Figs. 2 to 6 (not shown). When the stacks on table 20 have reached the desired height a pusher 24 is actuated to eject the stacks on to a discharge conveyer. In a modification (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown) the stacking members 4 and star wheels 13 are replaced by rake-like fingers which can pivot away from a stack formed thereon, thereby allowing the stack to drop freely.
