Abstract

1282483 Toggles THOMAS EASTHAM & SON Ltd 26 June 1970 [9 April 1969] 18114/69 Heading E2B A toggle device for fixing two components of an article together, such as an article of furniture, comprises a metal rail 10 which has side flanges 15, each having an end 14 of a 'U'-shaped member 12 pivotally mounted therein and being provided with a tongue 15a and a member 11 which has a metal channel plate 17 secured thereto by screws or rivets 18 so as to have each end of a 'U'-shaped member 13 pivotally mounted therein, and which has apertures 20 therein. To fasten the rail 10 and the member 11 together, the member 13, having a cranked portion 19 engages the member 12 as shown in Fig. 2 and the tongues 15a of the flanges 15 are located in the apertures 20 of the member 11. The members 12, 13 are then moved to the position to effect a toggle action and thus hold the rail 10 and member 11 together. In another embodiment as shown in Fig. 5 a member having side flanges is attached by screws 21a to a member 10. The side flanges 21 each have a tongue at one end thereof and a notch at the other end. A channel plate 17 is secured to a member 11 and receives ends 16 of a 'U'- shaped member 13 therein. A member 12 is pivotally attached to the member 13 and, when the fastening together of the members 10 and 11 is required, the member 12 is located in the notches in the flanges 21 and the tongues are located in slots in the channel plate 17. The members 12 and 13 are then moved to a position to produce the toggle fastening effect.
