Abstract

1281567 Cyanine dyes EASTMAN KODAK CO 9 Oct 1969 [9 Oct 1968] 49611/69 Heading C4P [Also in Division G2] Cyanine dyes for modifying the sensitivity of silver halide emulsions have first and second nitrogen-containing heterocyclic nuclei having 5 or 6 atoms in the heterocyclic ring containing said nitrogen atom, joined by a methine or polymethine linkage, the said nitrogen atom in at least one heterocyclic nucleus being substituted by a cycloalkoxy or optionally substituted alkoxy group. Preferably, the dye is of formula (in which Q 2 completes a pyridine or quinoline nucleus, Q 1 completes a heterocyclic nucleus containing 5 or 6 atoms in the heterocyclic ring containing the N atom shown; X is an anion; R is optionally substituted alkyl; R 2 is H 3 alkyl or optionally substituted aryl; L is a methine linkage; g is 0 or 1, n is 0-3; R is cycloalkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy, or optionally substituted ary] or alkyl). Specified dyes are those in which Q 1 completes a benzothiazole, -naphthothiazole, benzoxazole or 1,3,3-trimethyl-3H indole nucleus, R is CH 3 , C 2 H 5 , benzyl or 3-sulphopropyl and n is 0, 1 or 2.
