1281300 Drafting roll weighting mechanisms MAREMONT CORP 17 July 1970 [28 Aug 1969] 34666/70 Heading DID In a drafting mechanism having a continuously rotating lower roll 30 and a detachable upper roll 44 driven frictionally thereby, the upper roll 44 is supported in an upwardly opening recess 40 of a bearing 38 and is biased against the lower roll by a saddle 46 pivoted centrally at 48 and operated by a spring 52 via a rod 50. The saddle 46 comprises a four link double toggle-joint mechanism which may be locked in the operative position of Fig. 2 or released to free the upper roll 44 as in Fig. 3 (not shown). The upper roll supporting and biasing system is carried on a rod 24 which may be rotated a limited amount to set the peripheral engagement position of the rolls and is located by a lever 72 which is locked by a screw 76. The ends of rod 24 are held in roll support stands 14, which carry the bearings for the lower roll 30, and are held by pinch bolts (26), Fig. 3 (not shown). Roll 30 sits in a bearing recess (28) and is located by a cap 32. Rails 18 extending from stands 14 carry the middle and back rolls (not shown) which are adjustable along the rails.
