Abstract
1280921 Fire operated # ventilators R J LYONS 19 March 1970 [30 June 1969] 13186/ 70 Heading A5A [Also in Divisions E2 and F4] An emergency-releasable hold-down mechanism for a roof hatch cover comprises a slide ring on the short leg of a crook-shaped bar 32 attached at the far end of its longer leg by emergency-releasible means to the underside of the cover, which is maintained by cable 60 in its closed position while the slide ring remains on the leg but which flies open when the ring slides off on activation of the emergency-releasable means. In Fig. 2, slide ring 62 supports cable 60 holding the cover closed. Bar 32 pivots around pin 44 when emergency-releasable link 54 is severed, so that the ring falls off leg 36 and the cover opens under the pressure of springs 24 (Fig. 1). The cover may also be opened manually from inside by winch 61 and cable 60, or from outside by removing pivot pin 44 (Fig. 3, not shown).
