1276956 Measuring liquid levels electrically; liquid level indication VDO TACHOMETER WERKE ADOLF SCHINDLING G m b H 24 July 1970 [26 July 1969 28 Oct 1969] 36014/70 Headings G1H and G1N The level of liquid in an irregularly shaped container is measured by a two-float mechanism attached to the slides of a variable resistor, wherein one float is sensitive to level variations between maximum and a reference level and the other is sensitive to variations from the reference level to minimum. As shown, Fig.1, two floats 3, 4 in a liquid container 1 are hinged to a pin 11, float 3 being rigidly attached by arm 6 to rotate the pin and the slider 12 of a variable resistor 10 as the liquid level falls from maximum 18 to an intermediate valve 20. The arm 6 then engages with a projection 16 on the arm 7 of float 4, which follows the level from the intermediate valve 20 to minimum 21, the arm 7 allowing arm 6 to follow it via the projection 16. In another embodiment, Fig.4, a first float 33 follows the liquid level from maximum 39 to an intermediate level 40 and is attached to a first slider 44 on a first portion 42b of a variable resistor 42, when the arm 35 is arrested by a lug 51 on a holder 38. A second float 34 follows the level from the intermediate valve 40 to minimum 41 and is attached to a second slider 45 on a second portion of resistor 42. The arms 35, 36 are hinged to a pivot 37. The unit may comprise more than two floats.
