Abstract

1276495 Coating apparatus BOSTIK Ltd 25 June 1969 [27 June 1968] 30675/68 Heading B2L [Also in Division B5] Apparatus for producing a non-continuous coating on a substrate comprises a roller 82 having a recessed peripheral surface part of which surface extends into a coating reservoir 190 containing hot melt adhesive and a second roller 106 acting as a pressure roller to act on the upper surface of the sheet. Doctor blades 202 are provided to remove excess coating liquid from the periphery of the roller and heating elements 220 are provided to maintain the coating material in liquid condition, the roller 82 also being provided with heater means (not shown). The roller 106 has a resilient surface 116 and its axis of rotation can be moved by a pneumatic piston towards and away from the roller 82. Coating liquid is supplied under pressure from a heated container through a heated armoured tube to the reservoir 190. The hot melt adhesive which is a phthalate copolyester is removably applied in molten form to a silicone coated release paper so that it can subsequently be removed and used in laminating. The grooves on the roller intersect in such a way that the adhesive when applied produces a net-like structure.
