Abstract
1276390 Making fibres by cutting IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 Nov 1970 [19 Nov 1969] 56654/69 Heading B5B Fibres are cut from a reel of film of plastics material by advancing at least one knife against the reel, in the axial or radial direction, by an amount per revolution of the reel no greater than the thickness of the film. The film may be biaxially and/or uniaxially oriented and/or may be a laminate of which the plies have different internal stresses whereby a crimped product is obtainable. In examples fibres are cut from a balanced biaxially oriented ploypropylene film, using reel revolution speeds of 34-360 r.p.m., peripheral cutting speeds of 70 to 1550 f.p.m. and cutting depths of 0À005-0À015 inch. The film may bear a coating of heat-sealable adhesive, and fibres so coated may be used in making non-woven fabric.
