Abstract

1276197 Multi-disc brakes; brake disc constructions. GIRLING Ltd. 28 Sept 1970 [8 Oct 1969], No. 49460/69 Heading F2E In a multiple disc brake comprising an assembly of axially movable rotor and stator discs adapted to be urged by hydraulic or other actuating means into engagement with each other and with an end plate of a housing which is filled with oil or other fluid for cooling, the or each stator disc 10 is a flat steel ring having a series of circumferentially spaced slots 13, 14 extending inwardly from the outer edge of the ring and inclined with respect to radii passing through their inner or outer ends. As shown, the lengths of the slots 13, 14 are such that their inner ends lie on a circle of which the radius is substantially equal to half the sum of the radii of the inner and outer edges of the ring. The slots 13, in one half of the ring are inclined in the opposite sense to the slots 14 in the other half of the ring with respect to radii passing through their outer ends, the two halves being separated by the line 2-2 which passes through a notch 12 which engages a stationary abutment. The slots 13, 14 are chamfered at 15.
