Abstract

1,159,694. Disc brakes; hydraulic brakes. ALFRED TEVES G.m.b.H. 22 Sept., 1966 [29 March, 1966], No. 42342/66. Headings F2E and F2F. In order to prevent brake squeal in a spottype disc brake, having a fixed caliper, each limb, 2a, 2b of the caliper is provided with an hydraulic actuating device, the point of application of the brake operating plunger 5a on the side 2a of the caliper bearing the fixing flange is offset away from the axis of the disc in the radial direction and in a direction towards the disc exit side 1a of the caliper in a circumferential direction, when the disc 1 rotates in the direction of the arrow, the point of application of the opposite plunger 5b being offset towards the axis of the disc in the radial direction and in a direction towards the disc inlet end 1b of the caliper in the circumferential direction. The plunger 5a is provided with a downwardly directed chamfer 8 relative to the plane of the brake disc and the oppositely mounted plunger 5b is provided with a radially outwardly directed chamber 6 relative to the plane of the brake disc 1. Fig. 3 shows an alternative embodiment of the brake plunger in which the plunger end face is provided with chamfers 9 and 10 directed towards both sides and further embodiments (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) disclose shoulders instead of chamfers. It is stated that the above constructions avoid brake squeal. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 811,525.
