Abstract

1275530 Selective embossing DYMO INDUSTRIES INC 30 April 1971 [30 April 1970] 12558/71 Heading B6F An embossing tool has a generally rectangular frame 12, an embossing station 26 adjacent a first corner 27 of the frame and an actuating lever 74 pivoted and 78 adjacent a diagonally opposite comer 80 of the frame. A supply of strip material is held in a casset 18 adjacent a third corner 66 of the frame and a link 100 is pivoted at 104 adjacent the fourth corner. The lever 74 and link 100 are arranged end to end in general alignment between the second and fourth comers of the frame and coupled at juxtaposed ends therof such that upon depression of the activating lever 74 intermediate the two corners, the link will pivot laterally to operate embossing means at the embossing station. The link 100 carries a cam 116 (Figs 6 and 7) which co-operates with an actuator (30) mounted on a cantilever (120). The cantilever is fixed to the frame and biases the actuator (30) downwardly away from the fingers of an embossing disc rotatively held in the clip 34, Fig. 3. The first portion (130) of the cam moves the actuator into contact with a selected finger, and the second portion (132) causes the actuator 30 to deflect the selected finger (42) of the disc so that the plastic strip is embossed. Web feeding.-The strip 14 is first of all twisted at 50 through 90 degrees and is then advanced by a ratchet driven feed roller 60 which urges the strip 14 against pressure pads 62 when the lid 20 is closed. The pawl (144, Fig. 7) which drives the ratchet (148) is formed on a slide (140) driven by the link 100. Transverse severing.-(Fig. 9) An anvil (166) is moved up to co-operate with a pair of spaced blades (164, 162) by a cam (174) on a spring loaded actuating lever 170.
