Abstract
1,274,517. Metallurgical converters. DEMAG A.G. 20 June, 1969 [27 June, 1968], No. 31359/69. Heading F4B. A tiltable metallurgical converter 5 has its upper portion 3 above the trunnion pins 7 and bearing ring 6 cooled by an arrangement comprising a plurality of cooling coils 8 encircling the outer surface-of the converter. The cooling coils, formed by welding open channel-like conduit sections (13, Fig. 2) to the outer surface of the converter upper portion 3, are arranged in the form of multiple spirals connected to distribution and collection headers. The distribution header 9 is connected by a main conduit 15 to a stationary coolant supply through a rotary seal. A thermal expansion equalizer 17 is included in the main conduit 15 between the bearing ring 6 and the upper part of the converter. Each individual spiral coil is provided with a shut off valve 20.
