Abstract
1,273,010. Basic dyes. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 20 Aug., 1969 [20 Aug., 1968], No. 41593/69. Heading C4P. Monoazo dyes, which are free from sulphonic acid groups have the general formula wherein R 1 and R 3 each independently represents a C 1 -C 4 alkyl radical or an aralkyl group; R 2 is hydrogen, an optionally substituted C 1 -C 5 aliphatic radical or an aralkyl or aryl group; R 4 is an optionally substituted C 1 -C 5 alkyl radical; R 5 is an aliphatic radical containing 1-5 carbon atoms or an araliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group; Y is hydrogen or halogen or C 2 -C 4 alkyl or alkoxy; A is a bivalent radical of the benzene or naphthalene series; Alk is an'alkylene radical containing 1-4 carbon atoms and X is an anion. The dyes may be prepared conventionally by diazotizing the required amino-benzimidazole and coupling with the required benzene or naphthalene derivative. Alternatively an azo dyestuff of the general formula may be quaternized with an alkylating agent R 3 -X; or coupling the required diazonium compound with a compound of formula and acylating the resulting compound with an acylating agent introducing the radical -CO-R 5 . The acylating and alkylating may also be carried out simultaneously on a compound of formula The dyes give red shades on tannin-treated cellulose fibres, silk, leather and fully synthetic fibres.
