Abstract

1,272,863. Tampon applicators. KIMBERLEY-CLARK CORP. 30 April, 1969 [3 May, 1968], No. 22116/69. Heading A5R. [Also in Divisions B5, B8, Dl and F2] A tubular laminate, which is preferably in the form of helically wound strips comprises an inner ply 30, an outer ply 26 of paper having a non-absorbent exterior coating and an intermediate ply 28 comprising uncoated absorbent short-fibred porous paper. The outer ply suitably comprises a major portion of bleached hardwood Kraft and a minor portion of bleached softwood Kraft; the intermediate ply may comprise groundwood and a minor amount of bleached hardwood or softwood Kraft; the inner ply consists essentially of bleached softwood Kraft. The coating on the outer surface may be of a silicone resin or a clay. The wound strips are preferably bonded by adhesive and one end of the tube may be tapered and formed of tightly abutting pleats 20. A tampon applicator device comprises a second tube 16 slidably disposed within such a tapered tube 10 and having a multiply ring 22 around the outer tube.
