Abstract

1,272,851. Training in warfare; pyrotechnical device. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. 3 Nov., 1969 [7 Nov., 1968], No. 53682/69. Headings F3A and F3C. Ammunition for simulating the firing or impact of live ammunition comprises an explosive charge 5 and a detonator 6 therefor mounted in a container 2 which in turn is mounted in a flexible plastics material cup 8, with a space between the side wall or walls of the cup and the container the arrangement being such that the side wall or walls of the cup is of sufficient strength to withstand the explosion of the explosive charge. In the construction shown the charge 5 is interposed between tamping plugs 3, 4 and an electrically ignited primer 6 is provided, the cable 7 from which passes along the inner wall of the container to the upper end thereof. The free part of the cable is housed in the interior of a cover 17 which is provided with a rim 18 for holding the upper end of the container in position in the cup. Radial ribs 16 are provided in the base of the cup for positioning the container. The base of the cup may be formed with a weakened portion 15 for severing on firing of the charge. A flange 10 of the cup rests in use on the upper edge of a firing cup (Fig. 2, not shown) and a continuous or discontinuous lip 14 is provided for spacing the cup from the walls of the firing cup. The charge may be percussion fired.
