Abstract

1,272,197. Steam generators; tube walls for furnaces; tubular heat exchange elements. V. J. DALLIMORE. 12 Oct., 1970, No. 48373/70. Headings F4A, F4B and F4S. A fluid heater comprises a combustion chamber which is defined by tubes 1 of triangular cross-section in which e.g. steam is generated, the tubes being welded together side-by-side, Fig. 3, and to manifolds such as 5, Fig. 1, to provide a combustion chamber in the shape of a tunnel or hollow cylinder. In a tunnel shaped chamber such as indicated in Fig. 1 the end tubes 2 may be of square cross-section. The end walls of the combustion chamber may also be formed by tubes (Fig. 5). The combustion gases may exhaust from the chamber through an end member 4 or through a ring member 6. A heat source supply hole is formed in the chamber end wall by a ring 3 and secondary air supply holes (not shown) may be provided near the ring 3. Additional heat exchange surface is provided in the upper part of the combustion chamber by chambers 7 in communication with the tubes 1 via ports 8. Fusible plugs 9 are provided in the wall of chamber 7. A pressure or vacuum relief valve (not shown) may be provided for the tube assembly.
