A dry granular ready-to-use soup, sauce, or gravy mix, including a pregelatinised thickening agent of a type which is capable of agglomerating, or a blend of at least one pregelatined thickening agent and at least one other ingredient capable of agglomerating or pregelatinised flour, and which has been coated with an alimentary fat and mechanically mixed, kneaded and sheared to a dry granular condition, and a flavouring ingredient, may be prepared by mechanically mixing, kneading and shearing the ingredients other than the flavouring ingredient to effect the coating and granulating, and mixing the flavouring ingredient therewith.
